What is Ostarine?
Ostarine is a useful compound often used in athletic, bodybuilding, and various medical scenarios like treating muscle wasting. It’s considered to be a novel SARM (Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator) and is being developed by GTx, Inc.
Ostarine goes under a few different names, usually S-22, Enobosarm, and MK-2866. Medically, it’s being studied to treat ailments such as osteoporosis, muscle wasting diseases, and age-related musculoskeletal problems.
It finds its way into the athletic scenes for its mild yet noticeable increases in muscle mass, body recomposition, and low side effects. Ostarine is not a steroid or hormone.
Originally, Ostarine was discovered in 1997, with occasional studies and moderate interest being conducted throughout the years. Currently, it’s still being investigated, primarily with interest in treating elderly patients and is being studied on human patients.
What does Ostarine do to the body?
By acting as an Androgen receptor ligand (activator), it affects a variety of systems, mainly that responsible of muscular growth, body composition, bone density and growth, male sex traits, and more.
While its rather mild compared to steroids and growth hormones, the effects are certainly noticeable and you can expect an increase of lean muscle mass in between of 5-15lbs from a typical cycle.
Ostarine helps preserve muscle mass on a caloric deficit as well, which is greatly beneficial when trying to lose fat mass without reducing muscle mass and strength.
While the exact mechanism of action is undisclosed by GTx Inc, we can say that it activates pathways which are responsible for muscular hypertrophy without severely affecting hormones, seeing as Ostarine is used in clinical studies involving women.
How to take Ostarine:
There are a lot of factors that determine the best way to take Ostarine. One thing that remains constant is that Ostarine doesn’t require injections. Rather, Ostarine works very well in pill form and can be taken easily.
It’s highly recommended to remain on a consistent dosing schedule, and taking your dose at a similar time each day or night. Most people and studies prefer to administer the doses early in the day, ideally between 9:00 and 12:00 in the morning.
Most studies have the subject take Ostarine after 90 minutes of not eating, however there have been no reports of decreased efficacy if dosed right after or before a meal. While it’s hard to say exactly what the best time to take Ostarine is, it’s a rather stable compound and you likely wouldn’t have any problems with taking it at any time.
One thing to keep in mind is that you won’t notice results for the first week or two, and possibly up to three weeks. Like anything, results aren’t instant and you’ll need to be patient. If you’re not satisfied with your results after 4 weeks, then you might consider bumping up the dose.
Where to buy good Ostarine
Unfortunately, a lot of bad stuff is being sold everywhere and it’s important to buy Ostarine from a good source. This study concluded that only 41% of SARMs sold online actually matched the dose and ingredients, with all other samples being contaminated, having incorrect doses, or not even having the right ingredients at all.
This means you really need to careful. I cannot stress this enough, if you think a source is sketchy, you’re best off buying elsewhere. Check out Reddit to find where to buy good Ostarine or SARMs and do your research. Your health is important and if you’re trying to buy Ostarine in Canada or anywhere in the world, you really need to do your due diligence.
How to cycle Ostarine
The best way to cycle Ostarine depends on the person and their goals. In general, most people go for a 8/4 on/off cycle; 8 weeks on and 4 weeks off.
Some people however change this up and go for a 4/4, 6/4, 6/6, or 8/6 cycle. In essence, there’s versatility for how long you can run your cycle and how long off Ostarine you should go.
Since the side-effects aren’t so strong, some people have even done as little as 2 weeks off and some athletes using Ostarine for months straight, however we’d advise against this in order to give your system a break and avoid unwanted sides.
Stacking Ostarine with other SARMS
You can stack Ostarine with other SARMs or peptides as the great safety profile of Ostarine and low side-effects makes it a solid option.
For example, if you do decide to stack Ostarine with Ibutamoren (MK-677), you may have to look into a PCT (Post-cycle testosterone therapy) cycle as your hormone levels will likely be affected quite strongly.
This applies to stacking Ostarine with other things such as Andarine (S4) or Testolone (RAD-140) and you should do your own research if you’re looking to stack Ostarine.
How Ostarine works!
As a Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator (SARM), it works by activating and inhibiting certain receptors and their respective pathways.
The Androgen system carries out a wide array of functions and is responsible for things such as hormone production, sexual function, and musculoskeletal processes.
In essence, this affects muscle growth, bone growth & density, mitochondrial function in associated cells, testosterone production, hidydrotestosterone (DHT) and more.
While Androgrenic activity is mostly associated with male sex characteristics, the selective nature of Ostarine makes it suitable for use even with women.
This selective function reduces the effects on hormone levels and products while will lead to more regular hormone profiles. Your testosterone system won’t be entirely unaffected, though you likely won’t need PCT (post-cycle testosterone) therapy.
The exact biomechanics of Ostarine aren’t known since its composition is patented and secretive; however it can be likened to Andarine (S4) which is also developed by GTx, Inc. and has similar effects.
When to take Ostarine?
There is no best time to take Ostarine, however from what we’ve seen in the studies run, researchers often offer doses between 9:00 and 12:00 in the morning.
While you certainly could take it in the evening, it could lead to restlessness and change the quality of your sleep. To be on the safe side, we recommend going with how the clinical trials do it and dose at a consistent time each day.
It can be after, during, or before a meal, however in studies the researchers figure the best time to take Ostarine is 90 minutes after eating.
How much Ostarine should i take?
The best amount of Ostarine to take is commonly debated. Studies have been done using very small amounts showing surprising results with as low as 2.5mg. While elderly patients have certainly seen an increase in muscle and bone density from a light regiment of 2.5mg daily, many people stick around 10-15mg per day.
For the vast majority of people, we recommend starting at between 5-10mg per day. The safety profile is exceptional at numbers below 10mg, and beyond 15 mg per day is usually when testosterone suppression) picks up significantly.
Keep in mind that you likely won’t see results from Ostarine until at least week 3, often week 4 of dosing. The changes and benefits are slow to see, however patience is rewarding and the end results are satisfying.
We recommend not taking a larger dose until at least after week 4, and after week 6 if you feel the changes are too subtle, then you could consider bumping up the quantity.
How long does Ostarine stay in your system?
Ostarine is known to stay in your system and detectable by tests for up to a month, usually between 2-4 weeks.
The half-life of Ostarine is 24 hours, or 23.6 hours if we want to be factually correct. This doesn’t exactly tell us much aside from how often you should take Ostarine however.
Low doses of Ostarine is known to also show up in the same tests so if you need blood work done or talking to your physician, it’s a good idea to let them know that you’re taking Ostarine so they aren’t worried by the results.
Athletes sanctioned by USADA, WADA, or other testing bodies should know that Ostarine is considered a performance enhancing drug and outlawed by respective bodies. Please keep that in mind!
What about eating while on Ostarine?
Ostarine has an effect on body mass recomposition, favoring muscular development over fatty tissue. With that in mind, there are a few things to keep in mind while on a cycle.
Ostarine is great for cutting, and helps preserve muscle mass even at a caloric deficit.
Since Ostarine is great for recovery and will give you better performance in your workouts, you’ll end up burning more calories as a result as your workload increases. While Ostarine is great for a weight cut and recomposition, you should also increase your calorie intake accordingly, especially if you’re lean to begin with.
What about the bad sides of Ostarine?
As with anything out there, anyone can have a bad reaction to something. While negative cases are few and far between, it certainly does happen and you should cautiously approach anything that may seem strange.
Side-effects like rashes, hives, itches, co-ordination problems, powerful sleep disturbances, and other noticeable issues should be carefully watched. While Ostarine is safe and has a great profile, allergic reactions do happen and can lead to serious issues.
If you experience any serious side-effects from Ostarine, please quit immediately and consult a physician. Your safety is extremely important and risking anything for some muscle growth is not worth it!
